Introduction

Odett is a dictation app and service. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Odett, including our website, desktop app, and related services.

What we collect

We may collect:

  • Your email address and account information.
  • Usage data, such as number of dictations, feature usage, limits, errors, and performance metrics.
  • Technical logs, such as app version, device type, IP address, timestamps, request metadata, and server errors.
  • Audio sent from the app to our server for transcription.

We do not store your audio files after processing.

We do not store your transcripts, cleaned text, command messages, or generated command results.

How audio and text are processed

When you dictate, your audio is sent to our server, processed for speech-to-text, cleanup, and command execution, then returned to the app.

After processing, the audio is deleted. The resulting text is not stored by us.

The recent list in your app of your latest dications are only stored locally on your device.

Why we process data

We process data to:

  • Provide the dictation service.
  • Manage accounts and usage limits.
  • Keep the service secure.
  • Debug errors and improve reliability.
  • Prevent abuse or unauthorized API use.
  • Communicate with users when needed.

Legal basis

We process your data because it is necessary to provide the service, because we have a legitimate interest in securing and improving the service, and where required, because you have given consent.

Third-party providers

We may use trusted providers for hosting, speech-to-text, AI processing, analytics, logging, email, and payments.

These providers only receive data needed to perform their services. Some providers may process data outside the EU/EEA, in which case we rely on appropriate safeguards where required.

Cookies and similar storage

We use a small amount of browser storage on this website. We do not use cookies for advertising or for sharing data with other companies.

When the cookie banner appears, we save your choice in your browser’s local storage so we don’t ask again. This is stored under the key odett-cookie-consent.

If you accept, we load PostHog, our analytics tool, with cookies and local storage enabled. PostHog helps us see anonymous usage patterns, like which pages are visited and how features are used, so we can improve the service.

If you decline, PostHog still loads but only keeps data in memory for the current page. Nothing is saved between visits and no analytics cookies are set.

You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for odett.ai.

Retention

We keep account data while your account is active.

We keep logs, metrics, and usage data only as long as needed for operations, security, debugging, legal compliance, and abuse prevention.

Audio is deleted after processing. Transcripts and generated text are not stored.

Your rights

You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection to our processing of your personal data.

You may also contact the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet, if you believe your data has been handled incorrectly.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy as the product develops. If changes are material, we will notify users in a reasonable way.
